Frequently Asked Questions
What is Coaching?
Life Coaching and Workplace Coaching, involves using a range of techniques in order to help you to close the gap between where you are in life and where you want to be. Goal setting, visualisation and motivational techniques will be used in combination to help you reach your personal and professional goals. It can assist in many areas of your life including self development, relationships, relocation, adjustment and improved performance.
How is Coaching different to Counselling?
In many respects Life Coaching is similar to Counselling; they are both aiming at making your life more rewarding and fulfilling. Often the two processes are overlapping and complementary to one another, but they tend to start from different positions .Coaching clients generally choose to work with a coach because they want to, not because they need to. The way we coach is more present based and although the past may be touched on, it is only addressed in the context of discovering what is blocking the client from moving forward.
Why would I need a coach?
People choose coaching for many different reasons. You may want to focus on personal development, improve your relationships, or be going through a divorce or other life event. Or you may need help with weight loss or fitness goals or just need help setting goals and getting organised. Perhaps you feel stuck in your current career or you are starting a new business and need a sounding board. Or you might be moving overseas or returning home and need help with adjustment. These are just a few examples of how coaching can be useful and of course there are many more. Please feel free to contact us and we can discuss your situation and see if we can be of assistance.
Can I discuss my needs with you first?
Yes, absolutely. We offer a free 15 minute exploratory session with you over the phone. It is important that you are comfortable with us and we are the right coaching company for you. We are very happy to talk with you to see if we can help you.
Can you tailor a program just for me?
Definitely. All programs are individual to suit your needs and desired outcomes.
Will coaching make me feel uncomfortable or emotional?
As with any situation that instigates growth and improved awareness, coaching can be a profound experience which can bring about tears, laughter, joy, frustration but ultimately, we hope, great satisfaction. In our journey together we will work to build a good rapport with you so that you are comfortable. Some people are more open to this than others. We like to look at coaching as a skilled friendship.
What happens if it does not work?
We can agree to stop working together and we can find you an alternative coach or other professional if required. Coaching can be a very personal experience and it will not work for everyone. Total commitment is required by you, the client, as well as ownership of any problems uncovered and goals set.
There are a lot of coaches out there. How are you different?
We have a pragmatic, holistic approach that recognises everyone is different and do not expect people to conform to rigid pre-designed programs. The only thing we ask is that you commit to your own program in order to get the best results. We understand and respect your individual beliefs and celebrate cultural differences. Our programs are flexible and are not 'one size fits all'.
What shall I expect after I decide to proceed with coaching?
We will email you a questionnaire to complete prior to our first session which will include questions about life goals, plans and values, behaviours, personality styles, etc. At our first session together we will provide you with a workbook and we will also send you notes after each session. This will include what to expect in the next session and usually includes some form of homework.
How much does coaching cost?
That depends on the package / program and length of session you choose, or how many individual sessions you have. Please call us for further details.
How often will I need coaching and how long will it last?
Coaching sessions are usually held once per week or fortnight and last for 1 hour, but we can extend this to 1.5 hour sessions if this is preferred. As far as duration goes, some people are happy to have just a few sessions, where as others will want ongoing monthly coaching to maintain clarity, focus and direction. An average is probably 4 to 6 sessions, but once again this will be different for everyone. All of this will be discussed and together we will work out what works best for you.
How and where are sessions conducted?
Our consulting office is at the Quay Marina, Church Point, either on our motor cruiser or in our land office. We hope you will find this a peaceful, tranquil environment, but we can also come to you or meet you in a neutral place eg at a park or quiet coffee shop. We offer coaching face to face, by phone or by Skype.
